MVEX01-18-26 Postponement theory - statistical verification

There is a widely spread belief that a person can postpone the death (natural, not accidental, of course!) by mobilising his/her vital forces to leave until that important date ahead, for instance, until the next birthday. If the postponement theory is true, we should observe statistically less deaths just prior to the person’s birthday and, probably, more just after it. It is suggested that the students taking the project (up to 3) would statistically analyse the database of the Supercentenarians - the people who lived 110 and more years and, perhaps, some other available data. The work will include familiarising with the survival statistics methods, hypotheses testing paradigm, methods of comparing distributions (chi-square, Kolmogorov-Smirnov, permutation tests), and simulations methods. A basic statistics knowledge is assumed, fluency in programming in Matlab or R is not essential but it would be a large benefit.

Obs! För GU-studenter räknas projektet som ett projekt i Matematisk Statistik (MSG900/MSG910).
