In this course, PhD students learn about gender equality and work environment, focusing on structural and cultural obstacles that hamper career progression, factors behind inequalities based on gender, and factors that contribute to achieving better gender equality and an improved working environment.
This course aims to increase awareness and building of knowledge about gender equality and work environment among employees, to support long-term changes in culture, system, and numbers over time.
The course consists of seminars/lectures that are about gender equality specifically or a relevant work environment topic that is closely related to gender equality in the work place. The course applies a self-study format. Chalmers offers through the GENIE project 1-2 seminars at the central level per semester. CSE complements this with 1-2 seminars per semester. Seminars offered elsewhere can also be valid to include but shall be approved by the course examiner.
The self-study format is the following:
- Attend a seminar.
- Write a brief reflection based on the seminar (see guiding questions below), between half a page and one page long.
- Based on the approved reflection documents for two seminars, you will receive 1 credit (that accounts as a GTS credit). The maximum credit for this course in total is 3 (which, over time, equals 9 seminars).
- Once you have attended two seminars, and accumulated the corresponding reflection documents, you send them along with your ISP, just before your next follow-up meeting, to the participants of the meeting.
