During October 6-7th, 2010, an evaluation of SAFER was conducted by VINNOVA. The Stage 2 covers the three years 2009-04-01 to 2012-03-31.

All together, five evaluators visited SAFER. The scientific experts of the evaluation team, Richard Hanowski and Anne McCartt, addressed matters concerning research strategy, projects, and progress.

In a subsequent meeting, the generalist evaluators, Robert Johnston (Chair), Mary O’Kane and Heidi Dreyer, together with the scientific experts, addressed matters such as organisation and management, finance, interaction between industry partners and the university, and educational activities.

In addition, the whole evaluation team met with 10 PhD students, discussing their background, research topics and experiences in SAFER.

VINNOVA has approved a continuation of SAFER, and thus SAFER will start Stage 3 on April 1st 2012. The Stage 3 covers four years (2012-04-01 to 2016-03-31). The VINNOVA report is not yet published, but will be so shortly.
