On December 8th, 2008, an evaluation of SAFERs first stage was conducted by VINNOVA. The Stage 1 covers the three years 2006-04-01 to 2009-03-31.

The evaluators were: Per Stenius, Koshiro Ono, Jean Pierre Verriest & Richard Bishop.

In February 2009, VINNOVA published the evaluation report:

Evaluation of SAFER - Vehicle and Traffic Safety Centre at Chalmers
a Centre of Excellence with financing from VINNOVA

The result was positive, and SAFER continued into Stage 2 (2009-04-01 -- 2012-03-31).
