DRIVE C2X Demo Event: Making cooperative systems cooperate The EU project DRIVE C2X is pleased to announce the last major demo event of DRIVE C2X's test site campaign "Making cooperative systems cooperate". Visitors will have the unique opportunity to drive themselves and gain hands-on experience of the DRIVE C2X functions in a running FOT. The event will take place on June 13-14, 2013 at the Test Site Sweden (TSS), in Gothenburg.

Dissertation: Listen to your eyes! On Friday May 31st, 2013, at 10.30, Claudia Wege will give her PhD thesis presentation: "Listen to your eyes! Designing Driver Distraction Mitigation Through Behaviour-Based Safety And Real-Time Driver Feedback Technology". Claudia is an industrial PhD student at Volvo GTT. She is working in the EU Marie Curie Project ADAPTATION (http://adaptation-itn.eu/) and connected to SAFER Vehicle and Traffic Safety Centre. She will defend her PhD thesis in a few weeks at the Chemnitz University of Technology, Germany.

SAFER joining in LIGHTer structures Välkommen till ett seminarium på svenska där den virtuella och reella världen inom fogning möts. Under dagen vill vi tillsammans förstå mekanismerna vid fogning och hur man kan simulera fogens beteende och prediktera utfallet för ökad trafiksäkerhet. Seminariet är öppet för alla men vi vänder oss främst till SAFERs och LIGHTers medlemmar som är intresserade av simulering. Ett av målen med dagen är att finna forskningsfrågor som knyter ihop SAFER och LIGHTer.

SARTRE-project final workshop and demonstration SARTRE is a FP7 European project that performs transportation research, namely road train on public roads (also called platooning). A road train, according to SARTRE, is a collection of vehicles led by a manually forward heavy lead vehicle, and where several following vehicles (truck and passenger cars) follow the leader automatically, both laterally and longitudinally. The vehicles communicate wirelessly to form a cooperative system. Benefits expected are increased comfort, reduced fuel consumption, greater safety, efficient transportation, etc.

SAFER Workshop on Crash Compatibility Crash compatibility is a challenge for vehicle designers. The EU Project FIMCAR will be completed in September 2012 and is proposing a new set of frontal impact tests that should promote better compatibility in frontal impacts. The workshop will allow experts from the FIMCAR project to discuss research findings with SAFER researchers and identify priorities for future research.

SARTRE is a FP7 European project that performs transportation research, namely road train on public roads - also called platooning. The technical challenges in the project are many and interesting. FOT-Net workshop: FESTA Handbook The FESTA methodology is being further refined, based on recent FOT experiences and on input collected from seminars organised by FOT-Net. FOT-Net has revised and adapted the FESTA methodology for FOTs on ADAS, nomadic devices, cooperative systems, and naturalistic driving. Subsequent to this revision five new expert working groups will be created to clarify critical topics related to legal and ethical issues, data analysis, incident definition, impact assessment, and data sharing. The objective of the workshop is to present in an interactive way, the contents of the revised Handbook from different perspectives, providing examples of how the Handbook may be used. The workshop will provide a hands-on experience of how the newly revised FESTA Handbook can be applied as a methodology for the testing of different typologies of applications.

SEVS Safe, Efficient, Vehicle Solutions - exhibition The purpose of the project SEVS - SAFE EFFICIENT VEHICLE SOLUTIONS is to explore how safe, efficient and affordable future vehicles should be designed and ascertain what research needs to be performed, with special focus on safety and energy consumption. The project team consisted of members with different areas of expertise in order to explore important synergy effects and possible conflicts between new technologies. The project was initiated by SAFER and Swedish Hybrid Vehicle Cantre (SHC). Now SEVS Phase 1 is competed, and an exhibition shows the result!

Bioethanol is the underwater tip of this iceburg. However, the feedstocks we will eventually use and process by which they are efficiently transformed into fuels are yet to be developed.
