Post doc Position in MIMO Systems

Reference number 2009/114
Application deadline 2009-09-19

Chase - Chalmers Antenna Systems Excellence Center - announces a post doc position in MIMO communication system design.

Chase is a VINN Excellence center within antenna systems at Chalmers. The center has started in the beginning of 2007 and is sponsored by VINNOVA with SEK 70 million over 10 years. The center is hosted by the Department of Signals and Systems (S2). The center covers the research areas of nine Chalmers professors within antennas, signal processing, communication systems, electromagnetic computations, medical engineering and biological effects of microwaves. The center has both cash and in kind support from 15 Swedish companies that work actively in the research projects. The companies range from well established large companies to small start-ups from the professors research activities. The companies cover the market areas wireless communications, satellite communications, medical technology, safety and remote sensing.

Job description

The post doc position lasts for one year, with a possibility for an extension with an additional year. Also other positions will be announced within Chase during these two years. The current position involves work in the Chase MIMO systems project.

The position holds responsibility to investigate, evaluate and propose multi-antenna (MIMO) communication systems and their components. All research is done within Chase, and therefore in close collaboration with the industrial partners. The long term goal is to define new mobile communication systems that improve performance such as capacity and coverage.

In the work, MIMO system architectures including antenna characteristics need to be studied and evaluated for different installations and site configurations. It includes identification of suitable base station and terminal multiple antenna solutions and algorithms. In particular, research on distributed antenna systems, which may be realized through cooperating base-stations or through relay nodes, will be part of the work. The focus is on MIMO system performance evaluation and design, but radio network issues also need to be addressed.

Required qualifications

The applicant must provide documentation of previous experience and knowledge of multi-antenna systems, including communication systems and signal processing, and preferably covering all the disciplines of theory, simulation and measurements. Knowledge in antennas, mobile communication standards and simulation methodology are also seen as an advantage.

The applicant must be able to communicate well in both oral and written English. Knowledge of Swedish is not required but an advantage.

Application procedure

The application shall be written in English and include the following items:

  1. An application of a maximum of one A4 page containing your specific qualifications for the position
  2. Curriculum Vitae including list of publications
  3. Two reference persons who can be contacted by Chalmers (describe association with them and give their contact addresses)
  4. Attested copies of education certificates, including grade reports and other documents

The application shall be sent electronically. Please use the button at the foot of the page to reach the application form.

The documents according to items 1-4 above shall be attached as two pdf-files.

One should contain items 1-3 in the listing of material to be included in the application The other should contain item 4 in the listing of material, and any other appendices.

The files may be compressed (zipped).

If any material is not available electronically or cannot be transferred to pdf format, the material can be sent as a hard copy to Registrar. The applicants name and the reference number (2009/114) must be written on the first page of the application.
