Call for proposals

Proposals are invited for observations with the APEX telescope and the Onsala Space Observatory 20 m telescope in the observing period starting mid-August 2013 (APEX) and 1 September 2013 (OSO 20m).

Deadline: 15 April 2013.

APEX is a 12 m diameter submillimetre telescope in Chile. The available facility receivers are the Swedish Heterodyne Facility Instrument covering a wide frequency range (211-500 GHz and 1.25-1.39 THz), the LABOCA bolometer array camera (345 GHz), and the SABOCA bolometer array camera (850 GHz). (There are also PI instruments.) Swedish time on APEX is open for scientists from all countries.

The Onsala 20 m diameter telescope in Sweden is equipped with heterodyne receivers for 18-50 GHz and 85-116 GHz. The telescope is open for scientists from all countries.

Please use the NorthStar proposal tool for proposal preparation and submission.

>>>> NOTE: There is currently a problem with uploading pdfl-files longer than two pages in NorthStar. Therefore, please upload only the scientific justification (max two pages for normal propoals), and send figures etc, as a separate pdf-file by email to magnus dot thomasson at chalmers dot se.

As an alternative to NorthStar, you may use the "old" method of submitting the whole proposal as one file by email to magnus dot thomasson at chalmers dot se. The proposal should consist of a summary form, a scientific justification including an abstract and an explanation for how the requested observing time was calculated, in total no more than two A4 pages long (three pages for APEX  Large Programme proposals), plus figures and tables if needed. You can use the following LaTeX template and class files to prepare the proposal (the summary form will be created automatically). For those not using LaTeX to prepare the proposal, the necessary summary form is available in several formats.

More details about telescopes etc. can be found in the links in the left column.

Note: APEX data can be accessed through the ESO Science Archive APEX Query Form.

Calls for proposals for single-dish observations with the Onsala 20 m telescope and APEX are normally issued twice per year, with deadlines 15 April and 15 October. VLBI-observations are handled through a separate proposal procedure (not by Onsala Space Observatory).
