About the Centre

The Wingquist Laboratory VINN Excellence Centre envisions a fully virtual product realization process where product and production system are developed and verified together, without physical prototypes or testing. The centre will develop knowledge, tools and methods to support this vision and to enable for collaborating partners to drastically reduce time and cost as well as increasing their product quality.

The Wingquist Laboratory VINN Excellence Centre is an important part of Chalmers overall strategy to meet industrial needs with world-class research within product realization, to generate new research at Chalmers and to contribute to new business opportunities for companies located in Sweden. The centre is the only one within this fairly broad, process-oriented, focus area at Chalmers and is therefore an important and natural actor in the network of departments and centers at Chalmers. This gives potential for future cross-disciplinary projects.

The Wingquist Laboratory VINN Excellence Centre is hosted by the Department of Product and Production Development (PPD) at Chalmers but also includes research groups from Department of Signals and Systems (S2) and Fraunhofer Chalmers Centre (FCC), both located at Chalmers.

At PPD, a physical robot and automation laboratory has been built up for validating and demonstrating research results. In many research projects, facilities at the industrial partners are used for test and verification of results. Since the main focus in the centre is on virtual product development the need for physical facilities is limited. Instead, demonstrators of simulation and IT-tools are used to illustrate results.

The centre encapsulates approximately 900 square feet of office facilities and 625 square feet of lab facilities.
