GKN Aerospace Engine Systems (former Volvo Aero) is a new division within GKN Aerospace, a supplier to the global aviation industry.

The new business combines GKN Aerospace’s composite leadership with Volvo Aero’s strong metallic technology to provide a unique offering to customers who are focused on lightweight, high performance engine solutions.

Service and maintenance are an increasing proportion of the business. The business philosophy is based on close cooperation with the aerospace partners.
The GKN Aerospace employs in total 12,000 people of which about 2,200 people in Sweden. Volvo Aero has been a member of the board since Stage 1, and GKN Aerospace Engine Systems enters their place.

In Stage 3, GKN Aerospace Engine Systems will participate in research themes 1 and 2 (Platform-based Development and Smart Assembly). Contributions will be industrial needs and research questions, cash and in-kind contributions, testing and verification of results.
