Ola Wagersten is a PhD student within the Geometry Assurance and Robust Design research group. Quality problems related to geometrical variation are often discovered too late in the product development process generating delays and higher changing costs. Thus, a great deal of effort is put into meeting these challenges in the early design concept phase. By combining variation simulation and high-end visualization a Virtual Quality Assessment (VQA) is carried out as a basis for design decisions. This research project focuses on variation simulation and visualization of non-rigid bodies such as sheet metal, plastic and rubber parts. In the early concept phase there is limited information about the final design of parts, making behaviour prediction of the non-rigid ones notably challenging. The project is part of the Wingquist VINN Excellence Centre in collaboration with the automotive industry.
