Centre for Processing Fluids

MCR at Chalmers and DMMS at KTH Jointly Share the Centre for Processing Fluids
As of 2007, Chalmers and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm (KTH) in partnership with the engineering industry have created a joint Centre for Processing Fluids. The overall purpose of this Centre is to increase the competitive strength of Swedish machining practices and methods at the least possible environmental impact.

To accomplish this goal, a base of skilled professionals is required to encourage both enhanced productivity and greater knowledge of processing fluids and their use.

The plan is for this Centre to bring together both end user and supplier companies into a network within the overall framework of MCR at Chalmers and the Centre of Design and Management of Manufacturing Systems (DMMS) Centre at KTH. This network will be structured in accordance with established ways of operating within these two research centres, with MCR as the main coordinating organisation.

The long-term goal of the Centre for Processing Fluids is to be a catalyst for building an actively engaged national network among the following actors:

  • End users of processing fluids
  • Manufacturers of processing fluids, as well as manufacturers of plants producing such fluids
  • Universities, university colleges and research institutes

The Centre for Processing Fluids has three major activities on its agenda:

  • Managing a network of Swedish companies involved in the metal working industry, as well as their customers and subcontractors.
  • Starting and completing R&D projects in the field of industrial engineering that are specifically linked to processing fluids. This objective will be accomplished through long-range university research in close collaboration with industrial applications of these research findings.
  • Developing and committing educational resources devoted to selecting, managing and handling processing fluids suitable for business engineers and technicians, as well as licentiate and doctoral students planning to work with industrial applications of these processing fluids.
