Benjamin Kögel was born in Herzberg/Harz, Germany, in May 1979. He received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in Electrical Engineering in 2003 and the Dr.-Ing. degree in 2009, both from the Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany. His thesis includes MEMS-tunable VCSELs and their applications in sensor systems. Currently, he is with the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience (MC2) at Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg, Sweden, where he is working on high-speed and tunable short-wavelength VCSELs.
