Phase-sensitive amplification over an optical fiber link presented at OFC 2012 postdeadline session

2012-04-10

A phase-sensitive optical amplifier, shown recently by FORCE to increase link sensitivity over traditional phase-insensitive systems, has been demonstrated over a 80 km fiber link. The paper “Phase-Sensitive Optical Pre-Amplifier Implemented in a 80 km DQPSK link” was presented by Dr. Bill Corcoran at the prestigious OFC 2012 post-deadline session. This demonstrates the potential for implementing these novel low-noise amplifiers over long optical fiber spans, which may enable decreased power requirements for effective communications.
