2011-02-28 by Christina Caesar

Starting in late February, Dr. Bill Corcoran has joined the FORCE team as a postdoctoral researcher. Dr. Corcoran received his undergraduate degrees in Physics and Electronic Engineering at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia in 2006. He joined the Centre for Ultrahigh-bandwidth Devices for Optics Systems (CUDOS) at the University of Sydney, Australia in 2007, where he worked first on photo-written gratings in LiNbO3 before moving to his Ph. D. thesis work on enhanced optical nonlinearities in silicon waveguides. The focus was mainly on “slow light” enhanced all-optical effects and functionalities in planar photonic crystal waveguides.
Graduating in 2011, he now joins the fiber optical communications group in MC2. Dr. Corcoran will mainly work on phase-sensitive amplification and all-optical nonlinear processing.
