In 2010, FORCE researchers experimentally demonstrated an optical amplifier with 1 dB noise figure (at 26 dB gain) which is 2 dB lower than the traditional quantum limit and this represents a world record for any kind of optical amplifier.

In 2010, FORCE researchers for the first time, transmitted at 40 Gbit/s over a multimode fiber using a directly modulated semiconductor laser (VCSEL).
