About the workshop

Performing the right maintenance activities is crucial for the safety, reliability, availability, and profitability of a large range of operations and activities; performing the right maintenance activities is also more and more widely recognized as important for the sustainability of resources. The workshop gathered people from different fields within academia and industry and discussed the state-of-the-art and future challenges and possibilities in modelling and solving these problems. Stimulating discussions across subject boundaries enriched us all.

The presentations described operations research based modeling and analysis approaches to maintenance problems. Theory and applications, cases, as well as tutorials on state-of-the-art practice and methods, were presented.

The workshop was organized and partly sponsored by GMMC (Gothenburg Mathematical Modeling Centre) which is a research centre placed at the Department of Mathematical Sciences (Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg) and FCC (Fraunhofer-Chalmers Centre for Industrial Mathematics); it is a strategic research centre funded by the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Research (SSF, www.stratresearch.se).

Publication: Call for papers

Following the Workshop a special volume of the Annals of Operations Research on Optimization of Maintenance Activities - Models, Methods, and Applications(http://www.springerlink.com/content/101740/) will be edited and published by Springer-Verlag, with tentative publication date December 2010.

The editors are looking for papers that use or describe operations research based modeling and analysis approaches to maintenance problems. Theory and application papers, cases, as well as tutorials on state-of-the-art practice and methods are all welcome.
