Swedish Gasification Centre - node centre for indirect gasification of biomass

The node at Chalmers is part of the national competence centre - Swedish Gasification Centre (SFC) - that focuses on biomass gasification. The activities are a large number of interlinked projects that constitute an important part of the national Swedish target of large scale biomethane production, i.e. methane gas produced by gasification of biomass, to be used as renewable transportation fuels and thereby enabling the Swedish ambition to be fossil fuel independent by 2030.

The main research focus in the node coordinated by Chalmers is based on the Chalmers gasifier, one of the largest gasifiers in the world that produces a nitrogen free product gas from biomass. The Chalmers gasifier is a pilot plant for the Gothenburg Biomass Gasification Project (GoBiGas) - Göteborg Energi's initiative to produce biomethane from forest residues.
