Reality Studio in Kisumu is a course on Master level for Architecture, Industrial Design Engineering and Planning students, given by Chalmers University of Technology in cooperation with Maseno University in Kisumu and with support from UN-HABITAT. The students have spent six weeks for field studies in Kisumu and then continued and finalized their projects during the remains of the semester at Chalmers.

Sustainable development is a global issue which needs to be managed with care in each local situation. Even so, these areas face problems that they have in common with many other cities of the world such as threatened cultural identity and increased tourism, population growth and poverty, urban expansion and pressure on resources, declining markets and growing slums. The object of study is Kisumu, established in 1901 as a town, situated at the north-eastern shore of Lake Victoria in Kenya. The town represents various kinds of settlements, challenges and opportunities for future development. After spending seven weeks in Kenya, we will come back to Sweden and finish our proposals. The studio will have a final public presentation of the projects in the end of May at Chalmers Architecture.
