Presentation of ICOS Sweden - Integrated Carbon Observation System

2012-02-24 10:15

ICOS - Integrated Carbon Observation System - is a new European research infrastructure for quantifying and understanding the greenhouse gas balance of the European continent and of adjacent regions. In this information meeting ICOS Sweden will be presented by Dr. M. Hellström, Lund University.

ICOS - Integrated Carbon Observation System - is a new European research infrastructure of high priority within EU. The aim is to quantify and understand the greenhouse gas balance of the European continent and of adjacent regions. The infrastructure is built up as a collaboration of  nationally operated measurement stations in 17 European countries. ICOS Sweden is the Swedish contribution to this European effort. The majority of the funding for ICOS Sweden comes from Vetenskapsrådet (the Swedish
Science Research Council), but the participating universities also contribute substantially.

The infrastructure will be a platform for research and monitoring. There are 6 field sites included in ICOS Sweden, that will be fully equipped with advanced instruments to estimate fluxes of greenhouse gases as well as meteorological, ecological and hydrological variables. The stations are planned to run for 20 years and will have permanent staff. The stations will be served by a set of central facilities for quality control and the data will available for research.

We invite collaboration with all external research groups who want to use the ICOS Sweden stations for their research, short term or long term. Maybe your research could benefit from the services ICOS Sweden can provide? This may be research concerning climate and environment, water resources and hydrology, ecology and biodiversity, physics and meteorology and many other areas.

Lunch will be served after the presentation.
