The GHz Centre Stage 3 addresses four strategic thrusts for the high-frequency industry:
• DSP enhanced microwave front-ends
• Robust and high-power microwave circuits
• Low phase noise oscillators
• Millimetre wave integrated front-ends for demanding applications, in particular space and science
These four topics have emerged from discussions during year 2011 about the common technical needs among the industrial partners. The topics had a start during Stage 1, were continued with some additions during Stage 2 including more industrial partners. The resulting research projects address both short-term and long-term issues.
While this research profile is highly relevant for system and component companies, it also offers excellent opportunities for research progress, breakthroughs, and inventions. The research activity is based upon more than fifteen years of activities at Chalmers. The output from the research may turn out essential for the industrial partners in testing of novel designs in power components or functional system design on chip.
The research results are of significance for both wireless component and system companies as well as Swedish and foreign actors spanning a broad field of microwave applications from communication to sensing.
In the aforementioned profiles, the partners already have a strong track record with large background knowledge brought into the project. Through the GHz Centre profile Stage 3, a focused effort in addressing new technologies will be made where industrial partners are welcome to test and exploit results from the very beginning.
We are convinced that the research profile will carry us forward the following three years. We have reserved some budget for new initiatives during the Stage.
