PhD position in String Theory, starting in 2012The Mathematical Physics Group at the Department of Fundamental Physics has an opening for a PhD position in string theory, starting in 2012. The candidate's research will take place at the borderline between mathematics and physics, notably within the fascinating interplay of physics, geometry, algebra and number theory arising in string theory and supersymmetric field theory. Examples of research topics include BPS-state counting, wall-crossing, Donaldson-Thomas invariants, black holes, instantons, string dualities, automorphic forms, integrable systerms, hyperkähler and quaternion-Kähler geometry.
The position is for a period of 4-5 years, including up to 20% teaching. The precise starting date will be decided jointly when the vacancy has been filled.
At the starting time of the position, the candidate should have a Master's degree in theoretical physics or mathematics.
