Simon Harvey

Professor in Industrial Energy Systems, Department of Space, Earth and Environment, Energy Technology.

BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium (1988), MSc (1991) and PhD (1994) from Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College, USA. Joined Chalmers as Assistant Professor in 1997. Full Professor since 2011.

Research areas

  • Energy efficiency analysis of industrial chemical processes and industrial process clusters using process integration methods and tools

  • Rational use of biomass in industrial energy systems, including biorefinery concepts based on solid biomass feedstock and black liquor gasification

  • Process integration and techno-economic analysis of biorefinery concepts in industrial applications

  • Methodology development for long-term assessment of economic and climate-change impact of energy projects in industrial energy systems (with an emphasis on biorefineries and CHP)

  • Development of future energy market scenarios, including fuel prices, reference electric power production technologies and generation costs, and costs associated with energy and climate-change policy instruments
