Peter Torstensson studies railway vibrations and their unwanted consequences. Measures to mitigate railway noise are the main objective of his research. The work extends from low-frequency noise caused by for example rail and wheel irregularities (corrugation) to high-frequency brake- and curve squeal. He is co-supervisor in a PhD-project that considers rolling contact fatigue damage on rails and wheels (squats). Peter teaches in the subject areas of mechanics and strength of materials.
