Friederike Mierke

PhD student

Friederike joined the division of Food and Nutrient Science as a PhD student in June 2019. Her research focuses on bio-based production of bioplastics in yeast. The aim is the development of oleaginous yeast strains for efficient production of the biopolymer polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB). Plastics derived from PHB are biodegradable and non-toxic, making them a good alternative to fossil plastics, and suitable for usage in all sectors.
