Doctoral Student, Technology Management and Economics

Doctoral student at the Division of Science, Technology and Society, at the Department of Technology Management and Economics.

In the lead-up to the 2015 COP meeting in Paris, the Swedish government launched Fossil Free Sweden, an initiative which aims to make Sweden 'the world's first fossil-free welfare nation.' This implies that Sweden had been (and remains) a fossil-fuelled welfare nation. Jens's research investigates how, why, and when Sweden grew dependent on oil, and how oil is connected to the Swedish welfare state.

Jens is particularly interested in the political resistance towards the oil industry during the 1930s and 40s, when the government launched a number of inquiries that investigated if the industry should be nationalised.
