Main focus of the research:
- Powder metallurgy – powder manufacturing and properties, compaction, tailoring of sintering process in case of high-performance alloyed PM steels, sintering atmospheres, synthesis, etc.
- Surface analysis using advanced surface-sensitive techniques – characterization of surface composition and solid-gas interaction on the nano-level using surface-sensitive techniques as XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and Auger spectroscopy
- Thermal analysis – TG/DTA/DSC/DIL in inert and reducing (e.g. hydrogen) atmospheres
- Thermodynamic and kinetic simulation (ThermoCalc, JMatPro, HSC Chemistry, DICTRA)

Eduard Hryha has worked in the area of powder metallurgy for about 10 years, starting from his industrially funded PhD by Höganäs AB at IMR SAS (Höganäs Chair III). Starting from 2012 Dr Hryha holds an associate professor (docent) position in powder metallurgy at the department of materials and manufacturing technology with research focus on different aspects of powder metallurgy and metal additive manufacturing. He is one out of six excellent researchers in the SIP LIGHTer, Strategic Research Area 1 “Modelling of the relationships and interdependencies between materials microstructure, process ability and performance for lightweight design” (2014- ).

Main focus of the research:    
-     Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing – powder manufacturing and properties, compaction, sintering process development, carbon control, sintering atmospheres, material synthesis through PM route, powder bed additive manufactuirng (EBM - electron beam melting and LS - laser sintering), powders for additive manufacturing, additive manufacturing of high-performance components for high-temperature applications with focus on Ti and Ni-base alloys, etc.;
-    Surface analysis using advanced surface-sensitive techniques – characterization of surface composition and solid-gas interaction on the nano-level using surface-sensitive techniques as XPS (X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy) and Auger spectroscopy;
-    Materials characterization using advanced microscopy tools as HR SEM combined with EDX, EBSD and FIB;
-    Thermal analysis – TG/DTA/DSC/DIL in inert and reducing (e.g. hydrogen) atmospheres as well as vacuum;
-    Thermodynamic and kinetic simulation (ThermoCalc, JMatPro, HSC Chemistry, DICTRA);

Publications:
Author of about 110 journal articles and peer-reviewed conference papers. Author of more than 70 scientific reports (confidential) for industrial partners. See publication list for more details.
