Emma Nilsson

Industrial doctoral student at Mechanics and Maritime Sciences, Division of Vehicle Safety

Emma is an industrial PhD student at the division of Vehicle Safety, employed at Volvo Cars. She holds a master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). The focus of her research is cognitive distraction in car drivers. It includes how cognitive distraction affects driver performance, as well as how it can be measured using physiological measures derived from EEG (brain activity), ECG (heart activity), EOG and Eye Tracker (eye movements), EMG (muscle activity), Skin Conductance (sweating) and Respiration. Emma has been working with driver mental state monitoring at Volvo Cars since 2008 and started her PhD studies in 2015.
