My research involves studying the degradation of metallic bipolar plates (interconnects) for fuel and electrolysis cells. Fuel cells convert chemical energy into electricity with high efficiency. Electrolysis cells have the ability to transform water and carbon dioxide to hydrogen gas and syngas. But the service life of these technologies is too short to be commercialized. The goal of my research is to increase the understanding of the degradation phenomena of these technologies and aid in the development of more sustainable and better fuel and electrolysis cells.
