Maurizio Bettiga

Visiting researcher,
Biology and Biological Engineering, Industrial Biotechnology

Dr. Maurizio Bettiga joined the staff of Industrial Biotechnology at Chalmers in October 2010 as Assistant Professor. As part of Chalmers Energy Initiative, his research is focused on the study and improvement of the microbial properties required by the concept of Biorefinery, for the conversion of lignocellulosic raw materials to fuels, added value chemicals and materials. His research interests include the study and harnessing of microbial metabolism for the improvement of bioprocesses, molecular genetics of industrial micro organisms and in particular of the yeast Saccarhomyces cerevisiae
Lecturer and organizer of the Post Graduate course “Industrial Biotechnology of Lignocellulose-Based Processes”, organized by Industrial Biotechnology (Chemical and Biological Engineering, Chalmers University of Technology). Göteborg, October 16th -21st, 2011. In addition to lecturing (3 lectures, 3 exercise sessions), I was partly involved in the preparation of the course program, in the general organization of the course, in the preparation and grading of the written examination and I compiled a final report based on the students’ course evaluation.
Lecturer for the course of Cellular and Molecular Biology 2 at Chalmers University of Technology. 7.5 ECTS points, code: KMG050, average attendance: 30-50 students/year. (Spring term 2011 and 2012). I was supporting the activity of the course responsible Dr. Dina Petranovic Nielsen by holding one lecture and devising and organizing a literature exercise for the students.
