Susan Jagner was appointed Professor of Coordination Chemistry  on November 1, 1998.

She holds B.A. (1962) and M.A. (1966) degrees from the University of Cambridge, U. K., and research degrees in chemistry: fil. lic. (1966), fil. dr. (1970) and docent (1976) from Göteborg University. She was a lecturer at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, University of Göteborg between 1968-1973, and a lecturer at the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, University of Aarhus, Denmark, between 1973-75. In 1975, she returned to Göteborg to take up a position as Senior Lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry at Chalmers University of Technology and was promoted to "biträdande professor" in Inorganic Chemistry there in 1995. From 1995 - 1998, she served as Vice-President, responsible for the undergraduate school, at Chalmers University of Technology.

Susan Jagner's research interests lie within transition metal chemistry, latterly with emphasis on transition metal organometallics, and particularly the isolation and subsequent characterisation, by means of crystal-structure determination, of labile crystalline intermediates. She has also worked on aperiodic crystal structures, and in particular those of "order-disorder" (OD) type which are periodic solely in two dimensions. Susan Jagner is the author of more than 100 articles in international journals in these areas of research, and is a Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry. She has participated in three books on Engineering Education, published by the European Society for Engineering Education, and is the recipient of two awards for academic teaching. Susan Jagner served on the Chemistry Committee of the Swedish Natural Science Research Council (NFR) from 1989 to 1995 and was Chairman for the Council's International Evaluation of Swedish Research in the Earth Sciences in 1994-95. She was a member of the Quality Audit Committee appointed by the National Agency for Higher Education to assess undergraduate programmes at the University of Lund in 1997.
