Paul Gatenholm was appointed Professor of Biopolymer Technology on November 1, 2000.
He was born in 1956. He received his BSc in Organic Chemistry at Stockholm University. He graduated with a PhD in 1985 at the Department of Polymer Technology at Chalmers University of Technology with a thesis on cellulose-polymer composites. After spending a post-doc period at UNSW in Australia, he moved over to directing R&D in the polymer industry. In 1991, he was a visiting scientist at the Bioengineering Center, University of Washington in Seattle. He was appointed "biträdande professor" at Chalmers in 1995 and initiated research on bio-based materials. In 1997, he was visiting professor at the US Naval Research Laboratory and he was appointed Adjunct Professor of Biomaterial Engineering at Virginia Tech, USA.
