Kenth Lumsden was appointed Professor of Integrated Transport Systems on June 1, 2000.

He was born in Göteborg in 1944. He studied mechanical engineering at Lund University of Technology and took his MScEng in Engineering in 1968. After a year of practical studies in USA he started working in production for LM Ericsson at the beginning of the 1970s, with the focus on non-European countries. After some years he returned to the academic world and took his PhD in 1975 at the Department of Mechanical Engineering. His thesis analysed the necessary adoption of industrial planning systems to numerically-controlled machines. During his time in Lund he widened his academic perspective with a MBA. In line with his interest in transport, he completed a nautical programme, including work as a sea-going mate to gain his Master's certificate. Between 1979 and 1985, he worked at Luleå University, starting out in the field of economics and ending up as Professor of Mechanical Technology in 1982. He came to the Department of Transportation and Logistics in 1985, where he has held positions ranging from lecturer to 'docent'. At Chalmers he is also responsible for all nautical programmes. He has also published a number of academic textbooks within his research field.
