Jens B Nielsen, Systems Biology

Jens B Nielsen was appointed Professor in Systems Biology on January 1, 2008.
He has a MSc in Chemical Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark and a PhD in Biotechnology from the same institution. He did a post doc at the University of Hannover, and thereafter continued his research career as group leader at Center for Process Biotechnology, Technical University of Denmark. In 1996 he was appointed as associated director at Department of Biotechnology, Technical University of Denmark, and in 1998 he was promoted to full professor at the same place. He served as deputy director of Center for Process Biotechnology for several years, and later as director of this center (2000-2003). In 2004 he founded Center for Microbial Biotechnology and served as director for this center until 2007, when he moved with his research group to Chalmers.
Jens Nielsen has authored and co-authored more than 270 papers in international journals with peer review. He is co-author of three text books in the field of bioreaction engineering, metabolic engineering and metabolomics. He is the inventor of more than 25 issued patents, and he is founder of four companies. Jens Nielsen has received a number of key awards, including the Villum Kann Rasmussen’s Årslegat and the Merck Award for Metabolic Engineering.
