Bo Albinsson was appointed Professor of Physical Chemistry on July 1, 2003.
He was born in Göteborg 1963 and was awarded an MSc in Chemical Engineering in 1987 and a PhD in Physical Chemistry in 1993 at Chalmers University of Technology. During the next 2 years he was a post-doc fellow at the University of Colorado and returned to Chalmers in 1995 to a position as Assistant Professor with support from the Swedish Research Council. Bo was awarded "docent" in Physical Chemistry in 1997 and has since 1999 a Senior Research position with the Swedish Research Council. In 2001 he was appointed "biträdande professor" in Physical Chemistry at Chalmers University of Technology and leads a research group in physical and organic chemistry. Bo Albinsson is since September 2002 the head of the newly founded Department of Chemistry and Bioscience which is one of three departments at the School of Chemical and Biological Engineering.
Summary of the research
During the 8 years since Bo Albinsson returned to Chalmers he has, in close collaboration with researchers in organic chemistry, developed a project that aims for understanding and controlling electron and energy transport in molecular materials. Inspired by the corresponding processes in the photosynthetic machinery he now intend to develop artificial molecular networks where the rate of electron transfer is controlled. The knowledge from this research will be a foundation for the next generation of microelectronics – molecular scale electronics, where electrical circuits are build from single molecular units. The research combines advanced organic synthesis and ultra fast femtosecond laser spectroscopy.
