Electric Power Engineering

remsa.png

The need for electric power is essential to the development of society and the welfare of the people.

Electric power engineering is part of electrical engineering where the primary goal is to utilise electricity as an energy carrier. This includes systems, apparatus, machines and components that are intended for the production, transmission, distribution, conversion and utilisation of electrical energy. There is strong interaction with other areas of engineering, such as computer engineering, communications, electric measurements, electronics, control, energy conversion, mechanics, material science, physics, chemistry and environmental engineering.

Electric Power at Chalmers has a long tradition of theoretical and practical (experimental) education, research and work in power engineering. The Electric Power Engineering division has high-quality laboratories for education and research, which are used for training the students.

Programme

The programme covers the areas of high-voltage engineering, electric machines and drives, power electronics and power systems. The department's environmental and renewable energy source profile is also covered by the programme.
