Fredrik Schöier passed away on January 14, 2011 at the age of 41. Fredrik started his scientific career in 1994 as a graduate student at Stockholm Observatory, where he also graduated in 2000 with a thesis on the characteristics of red giant stars, in particular the intense stellar wind that terminates their lives. This was followed by a post doc period at Leiden Observatory where he also started to work on the formation of low-mass stars and their associated protoplanetary discs. In 2003 he returned to an assistant professorship at Stockholm Observatory, where he also became docent in 2007. He started his position at Onsala Space Observatory the same year. Shortly after his arrival to Onsala he became seriously ill. He was a dedicated scientist who remained active till the end. The last paper written by him was successfully completed within the last few days. He leaves an impressive scientific heritage of 55 refereed publications.
A very respected colleague and a good friend has left us. He is primarily missed by his wife Anna and their four children, but also by his colleagues and friends at Onsala Space Observatory and elsewhere in the world. It is a great loss to us all.
