Eight paths towards a sustainable future

The vision of a sustainable future is what drives Chalmers. When we brought cross-border research, training and creative innovation together, eight areas were formed. Here, we have a special responsibility.

Using the fundamental sciences as a base, we use our eight Areas of Advance to address the major challenges being faced by the world. We are already at the forefront of research within certain areas, and within others we are well on the way. By coordinating our resources and competencies we become stronger, are able to handle larger tasks than before and can reach further.

Chalmers’ Areas of Advance are all about interaction between people; between researchers within and outside Chalmers, between researchers and students at Chalmers, between Chalmers and the surrounding world. We create meetings where ideas are conceived and people take the initiative. This is how we work with the change to a sustainable society.

Our eigth Areas of Advance are:

Chalmers University of Technology seeks highly motivated young individuals to embark on successful scientific careers. Through the Areas of Advance we want to build on our strengths and recruit assistant professors to develop their research and to build strong research groups.

This will be important for rejuvenating the research portfolio and the hope is to build a strong faculty able to tackle the future scientific challenges.
