Organic Chemicals Emitted from Technosphere Articles

Start date 01/12/2007
End date The project is closed: 30/04/2013

ChEmiTecs is a research programme funded by the Swedish EPA. The programme's goal is to improve the understanding of emissions of organic substances from articles and to clarify and determine the magnitude of this problem. The programme aims to support development of Swedish and EU management programmes to minimise risks from harmful substances.

In close collaboration with authorities, producers and downstream users, technical and social aspects are identified, which contribute to the problem with emissions from products. Within the programme a selection strategy is developed in order to pinpoint problematic chemicals, articles and use patterns. Thereafter, chemical emissions will be quantified/estimated and related to other emission sources, e.g. industrial facilities and transport.

Attitudes among target groups towards the risks associated with emissions from articles are also investigated, as well as how they achieve and interpret information regarding such risks.
Voluntary and legislative reduction strategies aiming to control the risks associated with emissions from articles will be analysed. A road-map with clear indicators adapted to the environmental goal "A non-toxic environment" will be elaborated.
