Like in the rest of the western world, energy has been an issue in public, especially discussed and handled by men. This was also the prevailing order during the 1970s and '80s. Based on political activities and stories from the Swedish energy- and environmental politics 1971-1991, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the possibilities and constraints of the political practice. The study is based on qualitative interviews and text analysis. The study is biographical with the politicians Birgitta Hambraeus and Brigitta Dahl at the centre. By analyzing how they conducted their politics, the ideas they stood for, what networks they created, what strategies they used and what resistance they met, we analyze the political practice, using tools from gender theory and feminist research.
