New materials and Oxygen Carrier Aided Combustion for improved competitiveness of FB plants using renewable fuels
This project address two problem areas related to material wastage that today limits availability and fuel flexibility of biomass and waste fired power plants, namely corrosion/erosion of heat exchangers and water walls. The overall goal of the project is to improve plant economy of plants using renewable fuels and thereby increase the competitiveness towards fossil fuelled plants by targeting these two problem areas in the (fluidized bed) boilers. The project will utilize a two-pronged approach towards decreasing the extent of the corrosion attack of the water walls and the loop seal superheaters in waste-fired CFB boilers: (1) Improving the corrosion resistance of the materials used (2) Mitigating the corrosive/erosive environment by changing the bed material or by optimized boiler design. The project members consist of a consortium consisting of companies spanning the whole value-chain together with two world leading research groups.
