Molecular logic, memory elements, and information processing

Here, we are designing and characterizing photochromic supramolecules in order to mimic the function of logic devices. We are targeting a broad range of functions, spanning from simple “on-off” switches, different kinds of latches/flip-flops, over logic gates, to small logic circuits. We have realized the functions of the S/R latch, T latch, D-latch, several two input logic gates, half adder, half subtractor, moleculator, multiplexer, demultiplexer, encoder, decoder, keypad lock, and reversible logic gates on the molecular scale.

The research program is associated to the SUPRA Linnaeus Centre.
