Society's transition towards a bio-based economy offers new opportunities for the Swedish pulp and paper industry. However, it is a challenge to develop new products and at the same time meet requirements for improved energy and resource efficiency. This project aims to study how the Swedish pulp and paper companies formulate their business strategies in relation to the need for product diversification and improved energy and resource efficiency. An important part of the project is to study the interactions between business, energy and innovation strategies. The project will contribute to increased knowledge of these strategies and how they jointly affect the companies’ ability to meet demands put on this industry sector, and ultimately achieve sustainable and competitive production.
