There is a need to discover and develop new technology solutions for vehicles, that reduce GHG gas and health deteriorating emissions. Solutions that are not dependent on a fossil energy source. Especially for heavy duty trucks, we need solutions that minimize battery need and maintain the driving range. A hydrogeninternal combustion engine with near to zero emissions could be a viable, sustainable alternative, and it is the goal of this project is to investigate if this is feasible and how this can be achieved. This is done through study of emissions from a single cylinder hydrogen engine and dedicated exhaust aftertreatment components and systems. Also hydrogen jets are studied for combustion system and H2 dosing design. Both impure blue hydrogen and pure green hydrogen are used for engine optimisation, emission comparison and LCA studies.
