High efficient Otto engine with diluted combustion II

Lean combustion in an Otto engine is an important technique to reduce CO2 emissions and manage future stringent emission legislation. The purpose of the project is to continue research on techniques that enhance lean combustion by extending the limit on tolerable air dilution levels to increase the efficiency and reduce amount of NOx-emissions to the after-treatment system. Parallel to this, a lean NOx after-treatment system must be developed that can handle future emission legislations with the smallest CO2-penalty.Research on lean combustion will be carried out at Chalmers-combustion by performing engine testing. Research on catalyst coated substrates will be carried out at Chalmers-KCK . Complete system optimization and the development of a final engine running lean combustion with the best identified after-treatment system and testing and verification of this will be carried out at Volvo Car Corporation.
