Technical lignin is a carbon-dense waste product of the paper- and pulp and ethanol production. Due to its composition and molecular structure, technical lignin with a low CO2 footprint has a large potential substituting its fossil-based counterparts. Increasing its value is one of the central elements in a circular economy and is the focus of this project by further developing the manufacturing process and the properties of lignin-based carbon fibres using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
