EENE: Energy Effective Navigation for EVs
Advances in research concerning vehicle connectivity and electrification opens up new possibilities to improve on both energy efficiency and customer satisfaction. It is possible to alleviate concerns people might have in regards to electrical range of electrical vehicles by using improved navigation algorithms and systems. An efficient navigation system for electrical vehicles should take both travel time and energy consumption into account. It should also be able to calculate if it is possible to reach the target destination with the current energy levels in the battery and route the vehicle through an appropriate charging station if necessary. This places high demands on the computational efficiency of both algorithms and energy consumption models. The goal of this project is first to develop and evaluate these types of algorithms and models, in order to later implement them in prototype software for test vehicles. The plan is to validate both models and algorithms through simulations and rig tests. The project is coordinated by Volvo Car Corporation and will be conducted in cooperation with Chalmers Tekniska Högskola.
