Climate Smart Process Industry
Purpose and goal: In this initiative, we want to develop a climate-leading and competitive process industry in the field of green chemistry to meet the increased sustainability and environmental requirements of society, while increasing competition from outside world demands increased resource efficiency and more flexible processes.
Frontrunners in Climate Process Industry will lead to a transition from an industrial region based on fossil raw materials to a region where industry is world-leading in the production of chemicals, materials and fuels based on renewable and recycled raw materials.
Expected results and effects: The initiative is expected to eventually lead to: The amount of carbon dioxide emissions from the region is halved. A plastic recycling refinery is established in western Sweden. 50-500 new jobs in plastic recycling refinery and plastic recycling are created. New and existing materials are part of a recycling and reuse system. A production plant based on renewable raw materials is established in western Sweden. Established market for climate-leading products and fuels. Maintained competitiveness in the process industry and long-term sustainable growth in the region. Approach and implementation: The initiative will focus on four areas of action:
* Plastic recycling refinery
* Renewable chemicals and fuels
* Climate-leading process technology
* Climate-leading value chains
In Plastic recycling refinery, the raw material is recycled plastic, in Renewable chemicals the raw material is forest-based. Climate-leading process technology and Climate-leading value chains address common issues among the West Sweden Chemicals Cluster actors. Innovation support activities through The Cluster motor will generate new actions both within the initiative and as long-term effects.
