A compact aftertreatment system for hybrid applications - SCR coated particulate filter
The project will examine SCR coated filters. This technique saves space for the aftertreatment system, which is important for all vehicles, but is critical for hybrid applications. The coated filter is located close to the engine, which results in reduced cold-start emissions. Real soot will be used, generated using engines/vehicles at Volvo Cars. The soot will be applied on SCR materials and the effect of soot type and loading on the SCR mechanism will be studied. Finally, regeneration strategies will be investigated The benefit of the project is to get deep fundamental knowledge about the effect of soot on the SCR activity and selectivity, as well as regeneration strategies, which is important when implementing these systems. It is crucial to have information about how the ammonia storage and activity is changed due to soot loading and regeneration for the control system. These detailed studies have never been published in literature, which is why these results will be unique.
