Bengt Steen awarded for Life Time Achievement in Life Cycle Assessment

Bengt Steen, Adjunct Professor at Chalmers Environmental Systems Analysis (ESA), has received the prize SETAC Europe Award for Life Time Achievement in Life Cycle Assessment.

The award recognizes his outstanding contribution in promoting life cycle thinking and improving LCA approaches.
"I am very surprised, but think it is great to receive this award", said Bengt Steen when he was told.

Bengt Steen is outstanding in the field of life cycle assessment and particularly life cycle impact assessment with the Environmental Priority Strategies (EPS) system. EPS is a method that companies can use to make better decision earlier in the product development process to avoid costs on environmental damage - externalities.
 
This method assessing real costs of impact on the environment and is using the market values and the willingness-to-pay principle in cases where this is not possible. He was early in forecasting the internalization process on the market.
 
Bengt Steen has been and is a key person in the competence center CPM – the Swedish Life Cycle Center since 1996. In CPM Bengt Steen has constantly sought new frontiers and made us see and structure new ways of working and a new way of thinking.

"Bengt has a unique insight and can understand the agenda over the next 10-20 years. He has never put himself in the first hand and is highly respected among companies and researchers", said Elisabet Olofsson, Chairman CPM and former Director Environment and Product Safety, SCA Hygiene.

Bengt Steen received the award during the SETAC World Congress/SETAC Europe 22nd Annual Meeting in Berlin 22th May 2012.
