Carolina Braga

Carolina Braga

Hej hej! I'm Carolina and I come originally from Brazil but half of my family is from Panama. I have a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the State University of Campinas and I have just started the Master's programme in Innovative and Sustainable Chemical Engineering at Chalmers. This isn't my first time here though. In 2013 I was an exchange student within the Brazilian exchange program 'Science Without Borders'.

My first time at Chalmers

When I first got the opportunity to study abroad, through the Science Without Borders program, I wanted to find the perfect match that would fulfill both my personal and academic aspirations. Personally, I wanted to experience a whole different culture and that's basically how Sweden became my destination of choice. I spoke about this in my testimonial that I wrote back then. Academically, besides the excellence, I looked for a university which had the same core values as my beliefs and that stood actively for the purpose of making the world a better place. That's how I found Chalmers.

Chalmers broadened my horizons in a way that I could have never imagined

A glance through Chalmers' webpage translates the strong focus given to sustainability and reading thoroughly the programmes and courses description showed me that something was really happening to integrate high technology with sustainable development.

From the beginning I realized that I was right in choosing Chalmers. The professors, the courses and the active role that the students have in the university, shaping it, inspired me and broadened my horizons. By the time I finished my exchange studies, I realized that a Master's was the next step I wanted to take and taking it at Chalmers became a dream.

The Master's programme in Innovative and Sustainable Chemical Engineering in specific showed itself as the perfect choice for me since it combines the 'traditional' role of a chemical engineer with the role I believe a chemical engineer must have in society nowadays, namely to propose and provide the best sustainable solutions to both society and companies. Fortunately, I received from Chalmers the opportunity to come back and the dream came true.

It's good to be back home!

'Home' is much more than the place where you live in, it is a mix of feelings that comfort you and gives you a sense of completeness. Three years ago, when I came to Göteborg for the first time, I would never imagine that this city would also become home but in Göteborg and at Chalmers I truly found myself, as a student and as an individual.

As a Student Ambassador I will share with you a bit of my life at Chalmers and in Sweden, hope you enjoy!
